Railway Services Drive High-Quality BRI Development

On the afternoon of March 3, the press conference for the Third Session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held at the Great Hall of the People. Spokesperson Liu Jieyi highlighted that the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) continues to make new progress.

CR has been actively advancing overseas railway projects, injecting strong "rail momentum" into the economic and social prosperity of BRI partner countries. In 2024, the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway project officially commenced, marking a critical step toward completion. Meanwhile, passenger and freight traffic on the China-Laos Railway continues to thrive, solidifying its role as a "golden corridor." The Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway has seen strong passenger growth, with continuous improvements in service measures. Additionally, the Belgrade-Novi Sad section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway in Serbia is operating smoothly, serving as a testament to the strong China-Serbia friendship and being regarded by locals as the "road to happiness."

From "hard connectivity" in infrastructure to "soft connectivity" in regulations and "heart connectivity" among people, the CRE train has become a vital bridge for "Made in China" products to reach global markets while providing European manufacturers and traders with new pathways into China. The proportion of high-tech and high-value-added goods continues to rise, with China's "new trio", namely new energy vehicles, lithium batteries and photovoltaic products, gaining global reach via the CRE train. In 2024, the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor saw simultaneous growth in volume and quality, transporting a total of 960,000 TEUs, a 12% YoY increase, and integrating seamlessly with the CRE train to promote mutual development and accelerate the expansion of international logistics corridors.
